A losing prospect: Rolon's Poker Adventure

Quick update:

1) I moved to Boulder, Colorado in mid-May. I can't stand to live with my parents more than about a week and so exactly 7 days after moving out of my apartment, I packed up my gear with what meager possions I have and took off for Colorado. It took 23 hours of solid driving with a few breaks to let Sam out.

2) I love Boulder. I tell everybody it is my slice of heaven. I moved into a house with 4 other people. Two are assholes and hate me for no reason that I know of. And they don't clean up after themselves AT ALL. I'm talking just getting food and dishes out and not even making the attempt. I also would like to know whats going through their mind. Obviously I don't like them much. But the house itself is cool, albeit dirty. Sammy has two doggy friends and a huge backyard to play. Trails abound only a 5 minute walk from my house and I consequently take Sammy on a lot of walks.

3) There is also good rock climbing. Really good. Really close. A 5 minute drive and a two minute walk takes you to world class granite, sandstone and volcanic cliffs that tower 500-1000 feet in the air. And I've climbed a lot of them. All I do here is climb. I had a 13 day stretch where I climbed at least 6 hours everyday, without a break. It was super intense and needless to say, I slept well. It's hard to express how amazing the rock climbing is here.

4) I guess this is sort of a poker blog so I should at the veery least mention it. Umm....when I first got here I played a couple days of tournies because I didn't have any friends and finally swept a 1st place for like $5k. And I think I FT'd 5 or 6 in a pretty short period as well and ended up making quite a bit of cash. I logged on for the first time in about a month and swept some dude for $900 in about 15 mins. It was nice cause it paid for my sister's two week stay here where I paid for the 6 days a week we ate out. Coming off two years in a poor country like Moldova, my sister can spend a lot of money.

5) I finally made the trip to Seattle to visit Becky and climb Mt. Baker. We succesful summitted without any big set backs. We did get lost on the way back and ended up hiking about 18 hours in one day, like ~15 miles and about 13,000 vertical feet. But it was really good. Really good. So good I asked her if she could go anywhere in the world, where would she go. She said NZ. So we talked about it a bit more, for maybe 5 minutes, and bought two tickets to New Zealand. We leave Sept 26th and our return date is Feb 28th, 2010 but that very well might get pushed back a couple months if we need more time.

The plan is to rock climb, surf, climb mountains (20 mountains over 10,000 feet; our goal being Mt. Cook at 12,300 and pretty technical), tramping (backpacking), ice climbing and learn to base jump/sky dive. Also caving and kayacking. And other extreme sports like bungee jumping. Snowboarding, cross-country sking and probably snow shoeing. Everything! It's going to be such a sick trip. I'm so excited-- I want to leave right now.

I think that's about it for updates. Sam is doing good. My sister was kicked out of the peace corps for taking a two day trip to the beach. It's pretty shitty but now she is back in the US and was just accepted to University of Colorado, Denver. I'm super excited because it gives me a good excuse to return to CO.

Another long gap between posts. Been pretty busy in the meantime. I don't really want to write too much so I'll just make a short list.
1) I herniated my disk. It took 3 weeks to get a shot. The person who was in charge of getting it cleared through the insurance was a complete idiot and pretty much lied over and over again saying she was doing shit while she wasn't doing anything. So it took three weeks for it to happen...all the while I was seriously bedridden and in pretty intense pain. It was probably the worst three weeks of my life. I just popped vicadon's and cried because I couldn't do anything. Oh, and I just gotten a dog which made it 100x worse/better. Worse because I had to take him out all the time which was obv hard when I could hardly walk. Better because he could keep me company. But anywho, I finally got the shot/operation and although it took a week, I'm finally starting to recover.
2) I got a dog. It's a mini-Aussi shepred and is, without a doubt, the best dog ever. He is super smart, chill and can deal with anything (long car rides, swimming, hot/cold days, etc). Without further ado, here are some pics...

3)I'm finally able to climb again. I just got back from two nights in Tahoe where I did a bit of bouldering. Nothing too hard but it was still awesome.

4) I moved out of my apartment. It turned out to be the worst situation possible. Long story short is that they fucked up and didn't give me the right form or tell me I needed a "pre walk through" so they could tell us what was broken, etc. To be honest, if we had done the pre walk through thing it would have been awesome because they would have said everything is broken and you need new carpets, etc. and then we would have said fuck it and not cleaned anything. But as it was, we spent a whole freaking day cleaning (Ok, like two hours spread over a whole day but it was still hard work) and then the walk through didn't mean anything and its likely I won't see any of my secrity deposit back. Oh well, fuck 'em. I'm pretty glad to be out of there.

I think that's about it. I really haven't done much because of my back. I still haven't found a van but continue to look. I figure if I don't find anything the Honda will suffice.

I'm actually starting to play a bit more poker since moving out as well. I had a pretty sick run of MTT's, hitting 4 or 5 FT's in 2 days for some serious cash. The shitty part is that I keep getting 5th-9th. I used to win tournies every time I got to the FT but I was clearly running pretty hot. It'd still be nice to have a huge score rather than these good but not great 5th-9th.

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve updated this blog and quite a bit has happened in the meantime. I’ve done very little pokering over the last month (as in the last 6 months) but am just starting to get back into it for a big push in April, hopefully making at least $30,000.

But a first a quick life recap: Took a trip down to San Louis Obisbo to meet up with some old high school buddies I haven’t seen for at least 4 or 5 years. The minute I got there they threw me on a mountain bike and off we went. Mountain biking is about 100x harder than I thought it would be. First, you just have to get to the top of the hill/mountain which is hell. You go about ½ mile an hour and it’s just plain not fun. All you can do is slug away at it, going super slow, having to pay close attention to the rocks and pretty much dying. Going down is supposed to be the really fun part but my seat wouldn’t lower so I didn’t have the right center of gravity or something and pretty much sucked it up so a bunch of walkers kept passing me as I would have to get off my bike, carry it, and run down the steep parts...looking quite silly in the process.

That night, I ate some of Luke’s raw meat and ended up puking for about 6 hours the next morning. Mmm…raw meat. So Kiel and I got a late start going to Joshua Tree and didn’t get there until midnight. The campground was full so I ended up “sleeping” in the car while Keil struck it out into the desert where he found a nice little cave to sleep in. But! It was all worth it because when we woke up, the sun was out and the mountains were shining and calling us to climb. To make a long story short, we had a blissful next week. Set off in the morning, find a secluded gorge and climb all day.

So that was all good. I was set on buying a van, getting a dog and living the climbing bum life style. But then my sister’s best friend from college died, she came home and we went up to Seattle for the memorial and so that’s all been putting a stop to getting ready. I’ve still been buying stuff left and right and have most of what I need for rock climbing. Now I just need to work on getting the gear together for Mounteering and ice climbing as I’m climbing Mt. Hood on April 11th. I’ll have to start getting some pictures up.

It's one of those "I wrote a long post but it got #@#)* deleted" so fuck blogs type deal. I actually wrote it like two weeks ago and have been pretty lazy since.

Poker: I got a big staking deal. I didn't cash the first 30 tournies or so then rocked a quick 3rd in the 50/50 for $5k. Now I'm blowing through all my profits playing the Sunday majors. I think I'll even pony up $500 for the FTOPS main event today. Its in 4 hours though so I'll probably have pounded my head 3 feet deep into a wall because of bad beats by then.

Life: I rock climb a lot. Almost everyday I'm either at the gym or going to some place around Sacramento to find some boulders. I'm getting ready to go crazy and buy all the gear so I can start doing some rope climbing.

Video games: been playing wayyyy too many. I just bought GTA4 which it turns out is the best cure for tilt ever. Lose a 95/5? Go blow some fuckers heads off. Just grab that shotgun, walk up to some bitches and really get that muzzle in close and BOOM. I realize I sound mildly crazy but whatever.

Ok, gotta concentrate on my tournies. BIG BIG BIG

Feb 2nd: Superbowl, etc

It’s been another good week, albeit a pretty relaxing one. I mostly chilled at my apartment playing a combination of Dawn of War 2 Beta, CoD4, Magic Online and DoTA thrown in for good measure. But I’ve also been putting in 500-1000 hands AND,more importantly, winning money. I’m up a couple K this week even though I had a stupid thing happen to me during the superbowl.

I was actually watching the game pretty diligently because I had some money on the game. Well, during half time I decide it’d be good to put in some hands. I get two really bad players, both down like 40k in TR, who precede to own me for 6 buy-ins. It was pretty sick; 3 and 4 outters on the river and the whole deal. Then I sat there for the whole second half grinding back, got most of my 6 buy-ins back and then just when the game is over, make some really bad plays and give it all back again. I think I ended down 2.4k or so.

I spent the week down in Palm Springs visiting my Grandparents and rock climbing in Joshua Tree. It was a good trip, overall, but driving 8 hours is never really worth it. At least, for the time being, it has motivated me to play some poker and I even did a sweet session (which quickly turned into a Magic the Gathering Online sweet session once he saw that on my desktop).

One funny thing down there was that I walked into the poker room and low and behold, JERRY FREAKING YANG was playing some $2/5! I got all my money ($120!) and sat down. I sat next to Jerry and talked to him for a bit but quickly got bored with live poker and shoved KJo into AQ PF AI. Def worth it to talk to JERRY FREAKING YANG though.

It’s obviously been quite awhile since I’ve posted anything which is mostly due to the fact that A) I hardly play any poker anymore (which is weird as you’ll find out soon) B) I don’t do all that much in RL C) And the main reason; I thought I was down huge over the last 3 or 4 months.
For the last 3 or 4 months it seemed like I didn’t have a winning session. I would jump on, put in 200 or 300 hands HU or 1k hands in 6max and seemingly get crushed. I’d normally say fuck it after the 3rd or 4th beat/bad play and not log on for another week. But this whole time I never looked at PT3 or OPR and just assumed I was losing my whole BR because while, that’s what it felt like. BUT, it turns out that I’m up like tons of money.

So I’m actually up almost $20k in the last 4 months although I’m probably down $2k live + that Vegas trip which was -$5kish. This makes me all very happy and reinvorgerates me to play more. Other very good news is that the UIGEA looks closer and closer to being repealed and online poker legalized in the US again. Which, naturally, would be sick and probably mean that I’d take a year off life and actually do the grind thing.
Life stuff: I’m heading to Palm Springs tomorrow to see the Grandparents and rock climb at Joshua Tree. I’m moving out of my apartment Feb 28th and take off to China March 1st. I plan on enrolling in BLCU so I actually learn Chinese and then hopefully I can get a job in Microfinance. Other than that, just be chilling and reading a ton. I got really into Magic Online after reading a thread on 2p2 about it and played for about 36 hours straight. It was so sick. But like most things, I had to stop because I can’t seem to do moderation well.

Lastly, here is a pic from Thailand. This is at Krabbi beach-- my favorite place in the entire world. My sister and I kyacked around this super calm, bay with these huge sheer cliffs all over the place that were perfect for climbing. So we'd kyack out to one of these little islands and I'd just stand up and start climbing.

Here is a quick blog I wrote at the of my trip but never got around to putting up. I'll write a longer post at some point...

It felt like it took forever but I finally made it to Thailand. We had a super weird schedule where we flew into Bangkok at 12:30 AM, checked into a hotel, chilled in the morning for a couple hours and then had to go back to the airport at noonish to catch a flight to Phuket. It was odd because we were in transit for the first, like, 60 hours of our trip, which is never fun.

Anywho, I finally made it to Phuket and I'm up at 3:00 AM typing this out after being awoken by some sweet Techno music and motorcycles zooming by. We have a super nice apartment but its pretty damn noisy. Whatever, island time ftw.

Other than that, nothing too exciting yet. We checked out some resturants and found one selling 100g of lobster for $5 (in the US I'm pretty sure its like 5x as expensive although I don't know as I've never had it in the US) and naturally got a couple hundred grams each. Delicious!

The sun should rise soon and then I'm off for a long walk along the beach. Maybe get a Thai oil massage as well....life is good. Oh, and the stock market didn't crash although I'm not sure about the Fed stepping in and bailing the auto's out. Seems like a bad idea to me.

A week ago to the day I played a bunch of Sunday tournies and rocked 2nd place on the very last one I reg'd for. I'm doing the same thing today. I figure if I can win $10k every Sunday that'd be good enough for me. $520k a year don't sound too shabby. As for the past week, I haven't been up to much.

I've been rock climbing at my gym a bunch. I went to the casino on Weds, won $1.2k in cash monies (which, by the way, feels infitely sweeter than any money won online) bought a bunch of shit because I was feeling good (6 bottles of champagne, shopping spree, etc) and then went back the next day and lost it all back + more. Whoops, guess I didn't need all that champagne.

I'm leaving for Thailand on Wednesday which I'm really excited about. I was worried there for a second because of the airports shutting down and whatnot. Honestly...in what other country would they allow their citizines to shut down both airports and essentially tourism for 10 days? MAI BEN RAI!

Time to focus, GL GL GL ME!

I had a pretty chill Thanksgiving. I went over to J Walks house to eat some turkey and stuffing. The funny thing is I dont' even really like turkey all that much. I still ate some because I doused it in delious gravey. Walks and I played some pool and I owned him. Then we played some Monkey Ball which was fun. Now I'm back at my apartment. I played tournaments all day and lost some cash monies. Pretty normal Sunday. If I look at it, I bet I've never had a winning Sunday. Nah, I lied. I had a 14k score one Sunday.

I think I'm going to eat some stuffing right now while listening to "Where's your head at."

Swinging baby. The graph shows the last 10 days of play. Its more like 7 days of actual play and as you can see, I’ve been putting in the hands and just not getting the results. Everybody always talks about red, green and blue lines but I’m not sure what any of them mean really. It’s just pretty clear to me that even when 12 tabling 8 hours a day, variance can still kick your ass. I really am trying to save up to buy a house and want to have enough by March 09 to do so POKER GODS LISTEN UP: Please boomswitch switch me ASAP. I’d like to dominate $200 NL for like 20k hands, move up to $400 NL and crush for like ~$60k. This would allow me to buy a sick house in March and generally rock at life. I've actually been putting in hands. And I got PT3 so now I can throw up some pretty graphs once I start winning. Yesterday was pretty sick....I put in 4k hands and ran KK into AA 4 times. wohooo, thats pretty unlikely. Its ok though, I still only lost 800ish on the day which is pretty sick good considering. I like 6max and think I am decent at it. I can definitely put in a lot longer hours than I do at HU because you don't have to constantly find new oppenents, etc. My goal today is to get in 6k hands. We'll see what happens.

This weekend was pretty boring. I think I left the house once. I got addicted to DOTA for a bit and that was all I wanted to do. Aaron finally convinced me to quit- which I'm very thankful for.

Last night Aaron talked me into going to an AMSA club meeting where we learned how and practiced stictching on a pigs leg. The instructer was some big name plastic surgeon which was cool, I guess. Is was definitely weird to be back in school. The one thing I hated above all else was stupid people not grasping things quickly and this was no exception. We spent a good portion of the lab learning to tie a square knot which being the upstanding boyscot I am, already knew perfectly. Maybe not perfectly but I don't want to spend 30 freaking minutes tying a knot over and over.

Anywho, poker is going good. I paused my quest to become PLO world champ and instead am 16 tabling $1/2 6max. I took out a big portion of my roll because I'm not sure whats going to happen with the new UIGA and am not in the mood to lose more money because of the US Gov't (re: stocks!). But its fun to have to really grind it out again...something I haven't done in awhile.

Ah, Las Vegas. As I sit in the airport and reflect on my trip I wonder whether this will be my one and only trip to Vegas. I wonder if perhaps I didn’t lose quite so much I would have had more fun. Maybe…but there a plenty of things I don’t like about Vegas, least of all losing much. (I mean, shoot, I lose a lot more online on a day to day basis. Wow. As I write this, it feels good to type at a computer again. I haven’t done so in about 8 days and just being able to type fast feels good. Scary?)
I arrived on Saturday and took a shuttle to the Stratosphere. The tower itself is quite impressive but the Stratosphere is one of the older casinos, a fact that is quite obvious the minute you enter the casino. The carpets remind me of the 70’s and the décor is drab. I’m pleased with my room, nothing too flashy, but I have a good view of the strip and the tub is deep (which comes in handy after those long 12 hour losing sessions. Nothing like a long hot bath.)
Before even opening my suitcase I head down, grab a cab and head to the Venetian. The driver is a Thai guy and we chat about Thailand and how much he wants to go back but he is stuck in Vegas because of debt. I can’t even compare the Venetian to the Stratosphere—it is unlike anything I’ve seen before. They really have recrated an Itailian feel right here in the middle of the desert. With Phantom of the Opera music playing and the Gondolas in full swing, I enter the large doors into the Venetian and the head straight to the hell that awaits me- the poker room. For the next 8 days I will toil away playing poker.
My only winning day was my first. I entered a $540 deepstack tournament and finished 24th for a $900 payday. Not bad, I thought- maybe tomorrow I’ll final table. HAHAHA. The next day I entered another $540 at Ceasers and busted quickly. I played well, chipping up early and getting an above average stack. Then I lost. I forget how- I think it was 1010 v A10 on a 23J bored. I head back to the Venetian and play some 2/5 cash. I think I lose. I forget a lot of the next 8 days but I’ll give you my typical schedule.
Wake up at noon-2 PM, slightly hung over from drunken ½ and craps at Stratosphere. Regret that. Walk the solid 2 miles as punishment for sucking so bad at life. Feel a bit more refreshed and optimistic. Either play a tourney and bust quickly and then play cash or just jump straight into cash. Play for about 10 hours and get dominated. The first 2 days I really didn’t play great. I wasn’t able to fold big hands. But then I learned most of the people were just HUGE FUCKING NITS. I FUCKING HATES NITS BTW. And I learned to adjust and would own them Ricky style. But wait, KsKh v As4h on a 247sss bored for like 2.4k isn’t for me. AK v AQ v QK AIPF for 3.6k isn’t for me. At 2/5! Those two pots alone cost me my whole trip pretty much. I ended up down 3k total (probably more like 2.2k from poker, craps is not good). And when I think about it…I lost in a $540, 2 $340s and 2 $120s. So really only down like 1.1k from cash games which is ONE BUY IN. That makes me feel better, a little.

I’m on a bit of a downswing right now but its all to be expected because I was running so hot. I think I’m taking it quite well but still don’t like losing K’s at a time…it just doesn’t feel natural. I’m down about $3k at $1k HU and another $2k at $600 HU. I think I’m up on Stars maybe $2k so its only a $3k downswing. I just keep getting owned by fish. One guy sat down for 23 hands and caught 3 flushes where I had a decent hand…one we got it in on the flop where I had TPTK, he had TPNK + FD and won. Other one he had like 52s and caught runner runner. He was so sick bad but ended up like $1.8k on me after quitting 23 hands into the match.

No, I didn’t win the 100r last night and started to run bad playing donks at 5/10 (yes, everybody is a donk. Including Brian Townsend who I took for $200.) The good news is that I don’t really care at all. I used to hate losing a buy-in…now I want nothing less to sit there and play the guy until I get all my money back plus his. I think this a decently good thing.
I’m heading back to my parents house in Davis at noon. Going to do a little hike with my Mom and hopefully find some boulders to do some rock climbing on. Then doing some sushi with a buddy and tomorrow I’m going to South Lake Tahoe for even more hiking and rock climbing.

Oct 25th: I play so much poker its redic!

I've been playing poker nonstop for a couple days now. Last night I went to bed about 7 PM after playing poker all day; only to get up at 4 AM and put in a quick session at 5/10 and rock 4 buy-ins off one dude. Back to sleep until 11 AM or so and put in another session, this time two doubling some reg at 3/6. I'm pretty sure he was really bad because I got him for like 4 buy ins really quick but then he came back and owned me for it all back plus like $1k from me. So whatever, it wasn't a huge loss but it just sucks to swing 3-4k every session.

I just started up a couple of tournies and will probably win the 100r on FTP. GO DONKAMONTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

Oct 22nd: 3/6 and 5/10- I'm a real pro now?

Things are going well. I’m putting in a bunch of hands (this is good) and winning some money. I’ve also started to play more and more 3/6 and 5/10. For some reason I really don’t like the limit “3/6.” Typing in 18 for a PFR sucks and figuring out all those weird numbers (31, 48, 112, etc) really bugs me. 5/10, on the other hand, is the exact opposite. Everything makes perfect sense and I almost feel like it’s a $5 SNG because all the chips are red. All these crazy mental games I play with myself. I don’t use pokertracker anymore so I’m not really sure how much I’m up/down but I’m pretty sure I’ve won a couple thousand at 3/6 and 5/10 so far.

The one depressing I've been reading lately is that it seems bots are becoming more and more prevalent and people are realized the potential profit in getting a winning bot going. I really hope the poker sites do everything possible, plus more, to stop botters as it’ll really, really hurt the game if they become mainstream. I’m actually more worried about bots than super users. Superusers mostly ruining the very highest limits and I feel like they are a bit easier to catch; primarily because superusers are playing super opponents who will pick up on their superusing. Botting is really only a problem at the lower limits but that is where the stupid players are and most likely won’t realize (and report) if a bot is playing.

Oct 21st: Rock wall near complition!

The rock climbing wall is finished and I am super pumped! It took about a total of about ~10 hours to build but that had a lot had to do with the fact that the screwdriver I was using would just stop working randomly for periods of time or just go on perma-resverse mode which was super annoying. I spent a total of about $100 on the 2x4’s, plywood and screws. The holds are expensive- I’ve already spent $100 on the 10 or so I have now but ordered another 50 for $400 online. Once the other holds come, it should look like a real climbing wall. Right now its tough to get more than 2-3 moves out of the whole thing. Anywho, on with the pictures!

I'm writing this as I take a break from one of the best projects I've ever done...building a rock climbing wall in my room. As I've mentioned before, I just got a membership to a rock climbing gym. I'm really into and have gone nearly everyday that my bloody fingers have let me. And as I was browsing the internet looking for how to fix my bloody fingers I came upon people who had made their own indoor walls. Needless to say, I went out and bought a bunch of 2x4's and am in the process of putting as many nails as the wood will allow.

I will post a full trip report with pics when its finished (hopefully >7 days).

(poker is also going good. I stacked a guy 3 times in about 20 hands this morning, woot woot.)

Well, I couldn't quite pull together a back to back win but still finished 33rd in the 750k for 2.4k on FTP. Not awesome, esp considering I busted AJ < A10 AIPF for an average stack but I'm still pretty pumped I got that deep. I'm debating right now whether I want to play another day of tournies or actually go out and do something. Probably tournies...its too cold.

10-12-08: Winning money

Yay! I won the $100 50k Guar on Stars the other day. I played really bad in the four other tournies I registered for but then just kept one open while doing other stuff and after about 5 hours was super pumped when I realized we were down to 3 tables. Needless to say, I focused on up and used my MTT skillz to take it down. I was the short stack from about 15 down after losing 3 semi-big pots in a row. I was able to make a big comeback with around 5 people left.

This had to have been one of the worst final tables I've been at. The players were really just terriable. Limp/folding with 4bb, wtf!? limping 105s utg and calling a 4x raise? Calling gutshots for half your stack? At least it proves the games are a live and kicking.

I'm heading to the rock climbing gym right now to get a work out in but will be back at 1:30 for the $1m guar. BACK TO BACK WINS BABY!

Its been quite a swingy ride in October which I guess is better than a stand still which its been the last two months with me not playing. Some notable poker things;

- I got 2nd in a 5r for a little under $2k. This was cool but I 100% should have had first. I dominated the final table and ended up with like 4mil to 1.5 mil chip lead with blinds at 500k/100k. I get AIPF against him 5 times and was ahead each time (slightly) and he won every single time. It was insane. I kept chipping him down, getting AIPF and thinking "this is the time" but every time he hit his crazy hand. Oh well, still a decent score.

- I played about 1.5k hands against one guy who I thought I was really bad. He quickly dropped 10 buy ins in about 500 hands so I was up $4k on him. Sick, I'll play this guy all day, I thought. He had the sickest comeback ever and I couldn't hit shit for a hand and in the next 500 hands he won it all back plus one buy in from him. I made a slight comeback near the end and ended up +2k or so. Its fun playing 500bb deep though, which was a first for me.

Life is good. Yesterday I was super lazy and I didn't leave the house until 11:00 PM and that was just to take a quick walk around the block. I'm really into rock climbing now; I got new shoes, a harness and a membership to a gym here in Sacramento. I'm loving but my hands are killing me so its hard to go more than every other day. The yoga has sort of tapered out but I've got to get going again just to get my moneys worth. Today I'm heading home to cook some food with the parents and then a hike tomorrow morning.

Sept 27th: I play poker?

The last several days have been fun. I downloaded Warhammer and played 60of the 96 hours I had the game. I then decided to uninstall because the game is way to fucking good. It is better than WoW, EQ, etc combined. The PVE is awesome and the PVP is out of this world. I ended up getting to level 21 which, at the time, was the top 10-20 highest charecter on the server. I also uninstalled CoD4 which took over my life for a good week. As I’ve said before, I’m not good at moderation.

BUT! With no games to play I’ve actually been putting in hands and (SURPRISE! SURPRISE!) winning some money. For the first time in 2 months my FTP account is finally going in the right direction. I’m running super-God-hot right now; like, I’m winning 80/20’s, hitting 2^nd and 3^rd pair on the flop and whatnot…it’s an absolutely amazing feeling.

As for life, the preschool is still going. The kids seemed to have settled into a routine of sorts and aren’t as wild as when I first started. I’m also getting more involved in planning lesson plans and thinking of new ideas. I challenge anybody to sing more nursery rhymes than me.

I’m also considering a bet with a buddy…smoke an ounce in 24 hours with a ¼ having to be smoked every 5 hours. We’re nailing out the details now but are thinking of putting an ounce on the side to the winner. It’d be an expensive bet to lose but my friend is going to get backed by some friends, lol. I just want to do it for the challenge and to see her pass out into oblivion.

But turns out I don't play all that much poker anymore. I've played two WCOOP events- the $320 HU event and $320 6max event. The HU event I got to round 5 or something where I played really well against a huge nit until, of course, I made one of the worst calls of my life and then tilted away my remaining $20k chips at 100/200 (where I had plenty of room to comeback if I didn't tilt). So there goes a $100k first place. In the 6max event I actually played the best poker of my life. I was playing like 60/50 but making moves at all the right times, just owning everybody. I got my stack up to like 20th place (35k at 150/300, HUGEE) when this hand goes down.

Life, on the other hand, is going pretty well. I'm doing the whole teach at preschool thing which is fun. The kids are wild and it can get pretty intense when kids come in with huge bruises and say their parents hit them but overall, its a good experience. I'm doing Bikram Yoga too. The kind where they turn the heat up to 120 and you contort your body in odd posistions for an hour and a half. I'm also downloading Warhammher Online right now which has a 96% chance of ruining my life. Woot woot!

As always, poker can be a brutal thing. And its shown that in full glory the past month and a half. I can't complain too much but I've been cashing out a lot and so losing just feels worse and worse as my poker account slowly droppppppppppppppps. I still just can't seem to get hands in. I got my new computer set up (which is super baller, go 4 processors!) and new speakers (also siiiiick) but still can't sit down and churn out hands. I think I need to switch to 6max or something to get some variety, maybe I'm just bored of playing HU for so long (like 4 months now and probably 100k hands?)

So that was a good little rant about nothing. I've played 500 hands so far in September. Thats like 80 hands a day. alksdfjlasdkfjlsdf. and of course I'm down like -1239123 dollars but that spretty typical so I'm not worried.

Maybe Nora Jones will inspire me.

So I haven't been playing much (obv) but am ready to turn things around and really dominate sept. I'm not quite sure how I did in August but I just checked and dropped about $2k in tournies on FT and another $1k on PS. Oh well, tournies are not for me. I think I lost about $3k HU but I have no clue...I think I won $4k one day so maybe its not so much. Anyway, I don't have record of any of it so it didn't even happen! So who cares!

Now I've got PT back online and will post some sweet screen shots when I rape somebody. err...in poker, of course. I decided I need some other life goals and whatnot to keep motivated not to be a slug. So! Here are six that I've come up with so far.

Sept 2008-April 2009 Goals (8 months)

1. $70k in poker monies.
2. Get fit. Drop back to 160.
3. Get real estate liscence. Look into/buy a house.
4. Volunteer 40 hours a month. (already got 20 done!)
5. Read 20 books. (1 read!)
6. Brew 10 batches of beer. (1 completed!)

I'll add more as I think of them. I'm also going to start making video's and posting them here and 2+2 for some critque of how bad I play. In fact, maybe I'll make one now. I like my apartment a lot too. Maybe I'll post some pictures sometime.

Weekend activities and some poker

I had a pretty fun weekend that I should blog about so y’all don’t miss out on the life of Ricky. I drove home Thursday afternoon to make it in time for the Dark Night. Turns out I didn’t actually need to skip class as I ended up waiting 5 hours in line with all the other Batman dorks. It was fun though as I got to bug Chris and with about two hours to go we decided to roll over to a bar and grab some drinks. Batman itself was an awesome movie and def. worth the wait. Probably the best I’ve seen this year. The action and general plot of the movie was amazing, not to mention how creepy/cool Joker was.

Nothing happened after the movie and I just went to bed. Got to play some golf the next day. Evan and I went out and drank awesome fake Austerlian beer (Fosters is actually brewed in Canada, wtf!?!) and shot a pretty good game.

I really wanted to get an actual keg for a small “house warming” party at Thakkor’s new apartment but Evan talked me out of it arguing that we would be lucky to get 5 people and a keg with 5 people is probably a bad idea. Yeah, probably right. So we settle with a mini Heinekin keg and some Longbored and head to Thakkors. The party is pretty funny. We have some drunk competitions; who can climb a palm tree (nobody), who can do 25 summersaults, drink a beer and then do 25 more, and some others I’m forgetting. I went against Dustin in the summersault deal and owned him on the summersaults as my technique was flawless but laughed the whole time trying to drink my beer. So he was on number 40 or so and I just finish my beer. Then I go into crazy summersault mode (something I don’t do often) and win 50-49. It was damn close. Then I sort of started drinking a whole shit load and ended up passing out on the most uncomfortable couch ever while playing TF2. I think I ordered a pizza at one point because I was pretending to be the “Don.” I woke up the next morning super tired and not feeling great. Fun night, though.

After driving back at 11:00 PM last night I’m now back in Santa Cruz. I played some tournies today and went deep in the Sunday million only to bust QQ < style=""> I actually think I could have gotten away from it…UTG pushed about 11 BB and MP big stack man flat called. I had 23 bb and was almost positive he had KK/AA. I pushed and oh well. Then I sort of tilted a bit playing 2/4 FR and HU. After being up $400 or so I’m now down $700. That was dumb.

I also banned myself from PTP’s “Shooting Off” as I didn’t want to deal with any more of the bullshit that goes on there. It is entertaining for me but far too many things piss me off and more importantly, it is a gigantic fucking waste of time. The useless drivel that occurs there astounds me sometimes…yet I still can’t help but read it. Anyway, problem solved! I’ll let my $8k in stakes run their course (they’ll probably be $4k by the end of it but whatever) and then probably limit myself to about $1k out at a time. The staking was fun and I’ll have to go through and figure out how much I actually made but I need to focus on my own poker as its much more profitable.

I haven't been playing much poker at all and it feels great. I played the 20r 6max and $100 1r1a 6max last night and pretty near bubbled both. Like 30th and 32nd when 27 paid. Anywho, I really like both these tournies as they start at the same time on FTP and I think I'm way better at 6max tournies. They also only get about 200 runners which means I don't have to sit there for 7 hours to get top 20 and cash for like $200.

But more importantly, I've been seeing a lot more of Santa Cruz and getting out. I went running twice yesterday and have been going down to the beach to just chill almost everyday. Tonight I'm going to do a pub quiz night type deal which should be fun as Santa Cruz people are generally donks when it comes to knowing shit.

I also cut back quite a bit on my staking as I don't have one big investment that is up right now. All my $1k+ stakes are down and most of my smaller $100-500 stakes are down significantly as well. Oh yeah, I've also lost about 18% in the stock market. So this awesome month I'm having is pretty much offset by my shitty investing strategy.

Other than that, I'm heading back to Davis this weekend to see Batman Dark Night which I'm actually pretty excited for. Evan has been hyping it up for like 9 months now so it better be damn good. Now I'm off to another boring class.

I never did get around to posting this but I got 4th in the 40k Guar on FTP. After three long months I think I'm due. It really should have been at least a 2nd or 1st but got owned on the with KK < 10Jo. That was for double the rest of the table and I would have just been able to run over everybody else. With that said I'm really happy with how I played overall. I think I'm going to take a week break and explore Santa Cruz and maybe get back into WoW.

After being in Santa Cruz for over two weeks without going to the Bay 101 casino, I finally made my first trip there last night. My first thoughts when getting there was how shitty a location it had. A big empty lot to the right and a bunch of shabby office buildings across the street and the highway was buzzing behind it. I figure the inside will be nice like a normal casino but boy was I wrong. The walls are all ugly white washed with absolutely no décor at all. The ‘reception desk’ was unstaffed and the minute I walked in the door some ugly guy walks in front of me, sticks out his hand and looks behind me. I know he wants my ID but I say “What?” because I’m a bit pissed at how rude this guy was and he honestly doesn’t say anything, just keeps starting, looking super pissed off, behind my head. I pull out my ID and he stares at it for a second, hands it back and walks away. Pretty fucking bad.

The poker room itself is WAY bigger than I imagined. I’m use to the small Indian casino’s in Oregon with only 4-6 tables but this one must have had upwards of 40 or 50 tables. I’m a bit confused as, like I said, I’m used to the little Oregon ones where the floor man knew me and just put me on the list automatically. I walk up to the big list and I ask what games are running and this guy, once again, doesn’t say anything at all. He just points behind him and starts being rude to someone else. I see that they are running only limit games 3/6 up to 80/160. I get the guys attention and ask him to put me down for 3/6 to 10-20. He looks at me annoyed for like 5 seconds before super exapsteratdly asking me “YOUR NAME!?” Patrick, I say. He turns around, and literally is shaking is head, writes my name down. Wow. I could have sworn because we donate so much money to casino’s you expect good service or at least not down right rude service. I then have to wait an hour and a half to finally get a seat at 6/12.

The table is super talkative and of course I’m the youngest one there so they all make fun me, want to see my ID, etc. I don’t play a hand for probably 20 minutes until I get A8o on the button. Everybody has been limping a ton and there are about 2 limpers before me. I raise it up and get 3 callers, including the BB. Flop is all rags and I miss completely. I bet and they all call. Flop is like a J or something. Then all check and I bet and only the BB calls. The river is an 8 and we check/check and I take it down. This hand seriously set me up for the next 8 hours of play as everybody thought I was the super loose kid who bets too much. I think I played better than I ever had live. I played my normally stragagy, limping behind a bunch of limpers and raising from LP when there was only 1 or 2 limpers. It worked really well and I built my stack to about $800 (from a $400 buy in). I went a bit card dead around midnight and over the next 3 hours dropped down to 600 and about 3 AM decided to call it quits and drive home.

My feelings are very mixed now on live. I really feel like I played super super good there. This hand is a good example. I have K6s OTB and after 2 limpers I raise it up. Flop comes down KQ5. I bet and everybody calls. Turn is another king. I bet and only the BB calls who I had a good read on. River is a 9. He checks and I actually THINK about the hand, which I never do online. I figure a bet is best because he will call any smaller PP and any Q 6 or 9. And if he caught his straight (which is a smaller part of his range) he will raise and I can fold. And he will never bluff C/R, ever. Well, he did C/R and I thought about it again and folded my trips face up. He was shocked and showed his 10J for the river straight. This is something I would never do online.

On the other hand, I had to deal with mega uncomfortable chairs and very annoying people. I was seated between two Vietnameese brothers who were clearly colluding. It was so obvious and I kept calling them out on it but nobody would do anything. It didn’t affect me too much because I’m not an idiot but they just owned the fish with their super blantent collusion.

Like Viet #1 was BB and Viet #2 the button. A bunch of limpers would come in as per usual and button would raise and then BB would 3-bet. And, of course, a lot of limpers folded because they are dumb. Then BB would check and fish would check and button would bet. Then BB would reraise and of course the fish had to get out of there and then they would check it down. OMG it tilts me how bad the collusion was and nobody did shit about it. It actually saved me chips one time. It folded to button (Viet #2) who raised and I called out of SB with AJs. Then freaking Viet #1 in the BB 3-bet and then the button capped it! Wtf. I get a bit pissed here and fold. I ask to see both players hands and the BB actually had QQ but the button had A10o. He would never ever cap it with A10 off if his brother wasn’t in the hand. I ranted a bit to the dealer but the guy just kept saying “I always cap with A10” and how they saved me money anyway, which is true. So anyway, that’s my story of Bay 101.

Then I come home and because its super late I figured there would be a bunch of euro fish on and fire up FTP. I’ve had a sick month so far and decide to take load up 3/6 and 5/10 along with my normal 2/4. I stack a 20bb shortstack at 5/10 real quick with my A10 > AK AIPF. Then I get a half stack to sit in with me and on the third hand or something we get AJs vs his A6o AIPF. 6 on the flop and he is doubled up. Then we go back and forth for awhile. I had been playing a weird style of limping the button with almost my whole range because he was just potting OOP everytime, building pots for me. I’d mix it up between raising with shit and good hands. No real big hands until I pick up 1010 OTB. I limp and he makes it 30. I make it 110 and he calls. Flop is Jc9d3c. Not a bad flop for me. He donks out 80 into 130 and I make it 320. He calls and the turn is a 5d, making two flush draws. Now I have a hard decision on the turn as there is about 830 in the pot and I’ve got 550 left. I decide there is a good chance he has a FD, lower PP or Q10 striaght draw. I ship it in and he snap calls with JKo. Oh well. Take a shot at 5/10 and it didn’t work out. Grind back 2/4 and I’ll try it again someday. I think there are plenty of fish up there to where I have a big edge.

Today was fun. In the morning I went and took my marketing midterm which was easy pesy. Then I come back and played some tournies and naturally lose. I’m really going to try and stop playing tournies- not so much because I’m losing money but because of the opportunity cost (oh econ!) of me not playing HU. Its just so stupid to play these tournies where if I’m +ev at all, my hourly probably isn’t better than like $50 or something whereas in HU I freaking rock souls to pieces.

So I bust the tournies, am pissed etc and go running. I come back and sit down ready to play a serious 2/4 HU session. I win like 800 or something when my now good buddy KingEppy came and sat with about $240. He turned out to be a super nitty and C/F a lot of flops so I just kept betting, etc and got him down to about $120 or something and then I push over his PFR with 55 and he calls with A10 and naturally gets the wheel to bust my set. Oh well. I kept whittling him down again and had him at 270 when we get my AK v AA and he holds obv. Oh well.

At this point I’m a little tilted as I had this guy on the ropes and now he is up quite a bit on me. Errr…so I start open raising to 24 which probably wasn’ the best idea but I honestly thought it was +ev because he was still calling a lot PF and then just c/f the flop. Anyway, I lose one a good pot on a bad bluff where he called me down and then try it again like three hands later and lose a buy in. SHIT. Now he is up to $1k from his $240 buy in. And from there I continue to lose pot after pot. I can’t catch shit and he starts to c/r me a lot and taking down 60-100 pots. There isn’t much I can do. So he was up to $1.6k at his tops but then I finally started to catch some cards and get 600 back until he left. JERK. Blah, he ended up $900 on me. =(

Anyway, I’m tired of writing so I’ll shorten this up. Other dude buy ins for 160. Loses it quick stupidly. Does it again. Loses it and says he is drunk. I think he ends up losing 3 $160 buy ins until he finally buys in for 152.55 or something (his last $$$). He, of course, builds his stack up to like $1k but he is super agro and I'm super awesome and just bluffs at every hand I check, etc. After winning some good pots I have him down to $500 when this hand occurs.

NOt really the month I was hoping for...

I’ve decided I need to keep a lot of money in my FTP account when playing. I have a mental block or something because when my account is at 11k (even though I have tons of other money other places) it just seems like 1k is a HUGE hit even though its only 2.5 buy ins at 400 NL. It’s a pretty big problem I think and the only solution is just to keep 15-16k at all times. I just have to stop investing in such donks.

The month didn’t end nearly as well as I had hopped. I ended up $3,392. If you don’t’ count all the donking around I did (lol 5/10 limit) it would be closer to $5k. I also probably lost about 3k in MTT’s. So that’s even for me playing poker, woot! The good news is that I made a bunch at staking, probably close to 3 or 4k.

I think I’ll post this. Was just AIMing a friend about hands and firing off my thoughts. If anybody reads this blog they might find the hands and my thought process interesting. On another note, if you actually do read this blog, please leave a comment and let me know. I know I’ve said this before but I feel like some PTPers might actually read it now.

I put in a very good session today and ended up $2450 playing most 2/4. I woke up around 12:00 and was actually going to put in a huge tourney day so I booted up all the noon tournies and got about 8 going. Naturally I run super bad and get frusterated and stop registeresting for tournies and finish up the ones I have (which is obv super easy when you run bad.) ala I do some quick AA<55, style=""> Just such sick beats. Whatever.

So I take a break and go to Safeway to buy all sorts of delicious food. On a side note, Santa Cruz had a ridiculous number of bums/homeless which makes any outing interesting. Every time I go to Safeway (where the bums tend to congregate), there is always a huge party outside- people drinking, etc. So far nothing too crazy has happened but when it does…my loyal readership will be the first to know.

So anyway, food in hand I head back, watch some CR vids and get excited about playing. I reg for nightly hundred grand and the 50/50’s and boot up some 2/4 tables. And boom, 4 hours later or whatever I’m up 2500 in cash and down a couple hundred in tournies. Now I’m going to drink some gin and tonics and watch TV.

Ah, the life.

Here is something that I’m still trying to work on and had some discussion on 2p2 about. So I called the 3-bet in position with QJ because it was an agreesive match and hit top pair. Now I posted a hand on 2p2 similar to this and they pretty much said what is the point of calling a 3-bet with a hand like QJo if you are not willing to get it AI when you flop top pair? Even though I know 100% I’m beat after you 3-bets over me on the flop. Who knows. I don’t think this hand is THAT bad but I don’t’ think its optimal either.

Played a pretty long session today at 2/4 where the donks just kept rolling in. I felt like I played really good poker and even when I got bad beat I just kept on grinding which is something I really have to work as normally I'll quite after one bad beat.

I ended the session up just under 6 buy ins. Its too bad that I was playing so bad earlier this month and donking around at 5/10 limit or I could have shown a decent profit for the month. I've still got six days though! My goal is to get total profit for the month to $10k+ and if I play enough hands (1k+ a day) and run decently well, I should make it there.

eh, I'm pretty stupid. Played a bit early today and got up like 400 then came back later and dropped 600 being stupid. Then I got even stupider, drank two beers and decided to play Stars and dropped another 200. So eh, down 800 today.

On better note, I went to class today and it seems like its going to be a pretty easy summer. Econ is pretty easy to begin with and marketing econ is the easiest course ever. Its just going to go super fast and be a lot of reading. We'll see how the history of China class goes tomorrow.

I was going to make a big post about my Europe trip but realized I am putting off posting anything for that reason. I'm just too lazy to actually do it so I figure I should post something so I can get the ball rolling and entertain my loyal readship.

I've been back in Davis for about 2 weeks now and haven't been doing much. I was super motivated to play for the first couple days I got back and rocked some sweet BI's at 1/2 and 2/4 but then went over to a buddies house and played some 2/4 HU. I hardly ever do this but I got stacked 3 freaking times by one guy. He really seemed like a donk at first but after looking at the ends he was just playing a really good loose passive style. He was playing a lot of pots oop and calling down with 2nd pair type hands. I def. played pretty bad but he also made some good plays.

Since then I just can't really motavate myself to play much. I messed around with some 5/10 limit but dropped a quick G in 2k hands and decided that was no good. I played another night of tournaments, naturally went deep and got fucked over everytime it counted so that was no good. And HU is just eh. I played too many hands recently and just need to mix things up to keep poker exciting.

The other thing is that I've run pretty well staking people and dont' even feel like I need to play when I have money coming in through that. Oh well, we'll see. Maybe when I go down to Sanata Cruz tomorrow I'll find some sort of new motivation.

For the first time in about 15 years I went fishing. My buddy is crazy into fishing and bought a boat and all the gadets and trickets to go with it. I mean, he is super hardcore into but that is what made it so fun cause I get pretty hardcore into things when others are. Anyway, we did some prop betting about who'd catch the first fish, most fish, etc. I got owned in everything but the first fish but I feel like thats the most important. I was literally screaming like a little girl when I caught it too. Thakkor (his EQ name, duh) took a pic which I'll try to get a hold of at some point because its seriously one of the proudest moments of my life.

I'm leaving for Europe tomorrow. Super pumped cause its going to be a sick trip. Heading to Moldova first to visit my sister. After nine days with her we fly together down to Athens and chill there for two days. Then we meet up with the parents for a week on Naxos in what I'm hoping is a wicked big Greece Villa. Then my Sister and I tour around the Greek islands rocking them up like they've never been rocked; before heading to Turkey and checking out 'dem crazy turks. Finally, I fly to Germany to visit Aaron in Tubing which should cap off the trip nicely as Aaron and I seriously party way too hard when we are together.

As this is somewhat a poker blog, I should mention how much I suck at poker. And by suck at poker, I mean how much poker sucks the life out of me and I never want to play again. Just kidding. No, I really hate tournaments and don't want to play again. Its just too frusterating knowing that when I play good and make the top 3 tables of a big tournament or something I HAVE to win at least 3 coin flips to FT the thing. So get to the 27 and have a 12% of making the FT? Fuck that. I'm over it.
After rereading this it sound really whinny (which it is) but whatever. The point is...tournaments suck.

I'm sticking to HU where I crush donks.

5/20/08- Santa Cruz

This past weekend I went to Santa Cruz to visit a friend from high school. It was a pretty fun trip. We played some bocha ball on the beach the first day where Alex owned me with his ball throwing skills for a 6 pack of beer. Then we hit up some pretty sketchy local bars where I did some pool hustling while drinking far too much. The next day we woke up pretty late and played some golf at Scott’s Valley. I played alright but it didn’t really matter because I finally got to play a course besides the Davis muni. We kept it pretty chill that night and just drank some wine/hard cidar/champagne/beer/gin&tonic/etc. When Alex and I drink together we, like, don’t mess around. Interspersed between all this was delicious food around Santa Cruz but shoot, we must have spent close to $350 on food/drinks in two days.

Poker has been eh. I’ve put in like 1k hands total the last two weeks and have pretty much broken even. I just can’t find the motivation to play much after such a big month in March. In a couple of hours, though, I’m going to start on my “BAP” where I’m being staked for about 37 tournies over 2 days. Hopefully something big happens and I crush fish.

Ugh, I’m never drinking again. I was going to take it easy yesterday and just play a round of golf with my buddy but of course I ended up going out afterwards. Between golf and the bar I got in a couple of hands where I lost some money. I was pretty stupid because I tried to 3 table HU + 4 SNG’s. Such a bad idea. The SNG’s were only $10 and I should have just closed them and forgot cause they cost me about $500 cause I couldn’t focus on HU.

I had one interesting hand come up though. I don’t have the HH because I was on my friend’s computer.

Hand 1:

Villain had been fairly tight the whole match, not doing much but again I was playing way too many tables and wasn’t focusing much on him.

I’m on the button and raise 10Jo. Guy calls.

I flop the nuts with 7c 8s 9c. I bet $20 into $24 and he calls.

Turn is the 6s. I bet 60 into 70ish and he calls.

Turn is the 2c. He shoves about $220 into $160.

Against most players this is a fist pumping snap call but because this guy was so tight I guess I should have at least considered folding. I just hate flopping the nuts and losing. I also see a lot of people take this line with just a 10 so I don’t think my call is bad at all.

I ended up down $300 on the session. I’m going to Santa Cruz tomorrow and won’t be back till Monday.

Its been awhile...

Its been awhile since I have updated this thing but figure its about time. A quick recap of the last 4 months.

I played almost 60k hands of poker in December, the most I've ever played in a single month. That with a 8 day break to hang out with my friend. The best thing..I made about $800 which translates to just over what a Thai worker made. Balla.

Feb. I played a bit, probably lost money (can't remember) and then my parents came to visit. I took a trip up to Chaing Mai with my Mom and took a two-day bird watching trip which although I hate to admit it, I actually enjoyed quite a bit. We also rode elephants, saw long neck people, etc. all the touristy bits.

My final two weeks in Thailand I spent island hopping which I should have done right when I got there so I could have realized how much better the islands are than dirty Bangkok. I met some 2+2er's during the trip as well which was a bunch of fun to talk and play some poker and of course make degenerate prop bets. By the way, I dominate prop bets. If anybody actually reads this and meets up with me- you have been warned and I will own you in prop bets. I should probably quit poker and take up prop betting full time.

So island hopping. I got my advanced scuba diving cert. on Kah Tao. Of course, it was the worst visibility in like two years they said and I couldn't really see shit. I did see a cuttlefish which is supposed to be rare and whatnot. Then it was Koh Pa Nang for the full moon party. This is a sick big party that attracts people from around the world. Everybody starts to congregate on the beach at about 2 PM and the party goes till about 10 AM the next morning. People literally buy buckets of alochol by the bucket load (lol, not) and precede to do fire jump rope, fire jungling and fire walks. Oh such a good idea. Who was the genius who thought to combine fire and mass quantities of alcohol/drugs?

I came back to the States on March 1st. Went straight to Palm Springs to visit my grandpa who had surgery. They also live near a casino where I spent most of my time. I'd donk around at the 1/2 game (and I mean donk around), make some money and then go blow it on craps. I'm such a fish for craps and really shouldn't be allowed inside casino's.

Then I was back for a week, played some poker and met up with high school friends. For Spring Break, I took a road trip with two friends from high school down the coast of Cali, stopping at Big Sur and Santa Barbara for some mad partying. Big Sur must be the place to go as about 90% of the camp grounds were filled with kids 18-24. A word of advice- never, ever take kids to Big Sir during spring break. There was enough booze to float a freaking battleship. I mean, it was the whole nine yards with a beer pong table, NC rednick hill billies and some high school emo kids smoking weed.

Santa Barbara was pretty sick even though none of the students were there. The highlight of the whole trip was after we had a drink at every place that served alcohol on Ila Vista (it had a special name that I forgot- like the Ila Vista walk or something). Anyway, Dustin (my buddy) built a 'heckling deck' where you pretty much sit out on this bored overlooking the street and heckle the shit of people. Before we went out for the night I was talking about how bad of a heckler I am cause I'm a nice guy and all. Well, when I'm near blacked out and have a mad dog (yes, baller) in my hand I'm not such a nice guy. I remember very distinctly people walking by and yelling pretty absurd things at them. Some guy with a skatebored actually stopped riding and sort of shurgged his shoulders and was like "whats your problem dude." That was funny. And then the best part, which is a little fuzzy in my mind was when a cop drove by. He stopped and asked us whats up and I was just super beligerent cause we were talking about how much of assholes cops are in SB. So I talked trash to the cop and told him he couldn't touch me, etc. etc, super beligerent. Good times.

Ok, so I suck at story telling (and writing). Whatever, suck it. I haven't written shit since my last blog entry.

Since then I haven't done much. I'm chilling at home playing some poker and rocking it with old high school buddies. I've been playing a lot of HU. I started off with 1/2, rocked it and moved up to 2/4. Rocked it. But now I'm bored and need to find a new game. I'll even put up graphs.

I also got into staking at neverbeg.com. Its really addicting to stake people and I've got over $10k out now. But, its also cool cause I've built up a bit of a rep now and just got my first stake for two nights of tournies. I played really bad the first day but turned it around the second and managed to FT a $109 FO for 1.6k for a 800 profit or so.

I was pretty pumped up to play poker today and told myself I was going to run good. Crazy enough, I actually did run pretty good and actually got some action when I got AA/KK. I went pretty deep in the Sunday Warm-up and had a solid stack until I made a pretty stupid place and busted in 70^th for 1.4k.

I think I’m done with poker for a couple days. I’ve been playing way too much and really need a break. My friend is coming soon and I am excited to show him around Bangkok. Not quite sure what I’m doing for New Years tonight- probably going to a family friend’s place for a small party and then head out with some friends to bars and clubs.

I’ve got to take a nap right now though…had to get up at 2 AM to play the tourney.

The life of an MTT grinder

I have a very love/hate relationship with MTT's right now. I have been playing them nonstop for about 9 days now and feel like I've learned something. One thing that is for sure is I am 100% addicted to them.

The variance, beats and other shit that comes with MTTs though is almost too much to handle. I'm not great at MTT's by any means but feel that I am super +ev in every single one I play. There are so many weak oppenents who it seems like just don't really care about the money. But again, I make some dreadful plays myself that are really inexcusable. I really should take some time off as I think that the amount I've played has really affected my game.

But, I've dropped about 6-7k in the last 9 days playing MTTs and really want to hit something. Even if I was the worst MTT player I should have made at least one decent cash in the 200+ MTTs I played. Gad, some of the shit was just so frustrating its hard to describe. I was at that point where you expect AK to be cracked by AQ, lower pocket pairs to hit sets and flushes cracked by full houses.

The worst part of all of this was the beats always happened at the high buy in MTTs so I would do decent in the smaller events (never FT, of course) but just get owned by some stupid beat in all of the $100+ tournies. So yeah, I'm a little pissed off right now. Although because they are MTTs and its hard to tell, this seems to be the worst run I have ever gone on in my poker career. I really do hope things will start to look up or I'm going to have to figure out a way to deposit.

Oh, I also played a bit of cash and lost 3 buy-ins there as well. Go me!

I can't take this anymore. I finally have a good internet connection and am ready to play 20 hours a day but just take beat after beat. I know it happens- I run good in the grand scheme of things but boy, this is brutal.

At this point, I think I'm playing about a B-. I can't stop though, I really want/need/should/could alsdkfjsldkfds cash. I feel like a degenerate. I've been playing 20 hours today and like 60 of the last 90.

Stars has this pretty sick promotion going on right now whereby
(Ok, I'm about to bust with KK real quick AI pre. Guarentee I lose. Ok, I lose to AK obv. I run so good- more about that later though.) Anyway, whereby the top 100 TLB players on Stars play a tournament for a "PokerStars Passport" where they stake you for 20 $10k buy-in events. This would be the sickest thing ever and would pretty much make my life. I first have to make top 100 TLB...then I have to win it against the top 100 online players, no problem, right?

Well, I have been playing at least 15-20 hours a day. I'm on hour 19 right now and will probably play at least 30 today. Take a nap and then sleep until the Sunday majors begin. I'm not really a MTT player but feel this promotion is so sick I have to try.

So, how have these been going? SO BAD. I start off alright, took 3rd for $1500 or something.. Then its just been down hill from there. Bad beat after mother fucking bad beat, and a little of me playing so bad in there too but mostly such bad beats its crazy.

Ok, this post is terriable because I am so tired and playing 4 tables right now. I thought I should post something though.

oh, I went to Cambodia a bit ago. I'll give a trip report about that at some point.

I’ve played more poker in the last three days than in the past three months. I’ve been 12 tabling $1/2 on Stars and booked around 15k hands so far, plus about 40 or so tournaments. The cash has been going well although the last 4k hands or so I’m down 5 buy-ins, only two or so are bad play. Tournaments were very frusterating as I only cashed in 1 of the first 39. Then I won the a 30+3 for 4k so I’m up a bit from all that. Its crazy- I hardly ever just make a nice score. I’ve never gone deep in a decent sized tournament without winning it. No big 2^nd or 3rds or even a big final table. When I go deep in a big tournament, I’ve won each time. Which says two things- I play bad the beginning of MTTs and don’t go deep often but also that when I actually do make it there, I do pretty well. I’m actually super, super happy with my play at this FT. I honestly don’t think I misplayed one hand- everything just went perfectly.

I don’t really plan on doing much in the next couple of weeks. My friend comes on the 4^th and I figure then I’ll leave my apartment and see more of Bangkok. I really, really want to play a lot of poker and think I have a good shot of making some serious cash.

Oh, I almost forgot. I got into the staking thing a bit and thought it was pretty fun. I staked a guy for a $55 tourny, he cashed for a little bit so I staked him for the 100k tourney and antoher $55. He missed both of those though so I ended up down $200ish. It was pretty fun though and will def. do it again. I’m even thinking about starting a site so that I can better verify people and whatnot.

First night in Bangkok

Last night, I went out witch a bunch of guys from 2p2. Ryo and I didn’t get to cookie and crews house until 11:00 but when we walked in the door we were handed a cup and poured a glass of homemade ‘long island ice tea.’ Chilled for a bit, played some dragon ball z (actually a pretty fun game) and then went to Santina or something on Eakami. Ordered two bottles of Chivas and after checking out the club got down to the serious business of drinking heavily.

I played quarters with the birthday boy who at this point was already pretty drunk. He didn’t think an American would be any good and that he would own me. Eh, I was in a frat and played a lot of quarters. I think I lost once or something against him. I played cookie a bit too- he was a bit better and I think we made out about even. Then 1k flips with Ryo who is the biggest luckbox ever. First one, 1k and he wins. Second, 1k and he wins. Alright, gotta win the third one so we bump it up to 2k. Fucking luckbox three in a row!! That was the quickest 4k I’ve ever left (not really, of course).

Its really weird hanging out with poker players because as a rule of thumb, poker players have no concept of money whatsoever. Myself included. For most people losing 4k (baht, ~$125) is a sort of big deal. But eh, poker players win and lose a years rent before they eat breakfest. There is this mentality, I think, that money is pretty much infinite. Going from hanging out with backpackers, who collect 10 baht from everyone for a 40 baht taxi ride, to poker players, who will treat the party to two bottles and think nothing of it, is just nuts. I mean, who honestly flips a coin for 1k? Could you be any more degenerate (and less creative, next time we have to think of better prop bets than flipping a coin)? Whatever, its fun and I’m loving it.

I digress, we were the last ones to leave the place and cookie and birthday boy tried to hire one of the staff to become their personal chef/cleaner/etc. I’m not sure what became of that but it was pretty funny. Us three headed over to Spice while Ryo and company went, I later learned, to a hair salon to pee or something and never made it.

Spice was what I had sort of pictured a Thai bar to be- tons of middle age, not great looking German men and TONS of scantily clad Thai girls (and boys). We drank more, birthday boy passed out and cookie had to take him home and I was left to fend for myself. I’m honestly really scared of picking up a ladyboy and fended off all the girls. I just stood at the bar, girls would come up and grind on me, I’d sort of push them away. They would try to say something but I’m deaf and hate more than anything trying to talk in a loud club so I’d wave my hand and they would grind some more. I was drinking pretty good at this point so I loosened up a bit and started to dance a bit with some of the finer gals. I bought some drinks for them, more girls came over, bought some more drinks and by the end of it all had about 8 or 9 girls in my ‘section.’ I felt like a pimp.

I’ve rambled a bit and this has gone far to long so I’ll end it here by saying the fear of picking up a ladyboy out wheighed the temptation to bring one home. I had dinner with 3 of the girls, got some phone numbers and went home around 7 AM as the sun was just rising.

I wasn’t able to post this before and had another eventful night last night. Went to Fransau (French names are hard to spell) for some poker and vodka. Good times, for sure. The highlight was definitely the last hand though.

The game was pretty nuts at this point. We were playing 10-10 blinds but the game was playing more like 50-100. A lot of times the straddle would get up to 80 and once we did a full table straddle, with me doing the 320! Tons of stupid crazy pots. But the last hand, Ryo open pushed for like 4k. Super nit birthday boy (I’m still trying to do names) insta pushed his 5k in. Goes around to cookie who thinks about it for 10 secs or so and throws his 3k in! Then I look down and have QQ! Wtf! I think about it for awhile, I figure I have to be dominated by super nit who had just announced he didn’t want to lose his hard earned money but called anyway. Ryo had 22 (wtf!?), nit had AKs and cookie had JJ. SWEEETTTTT!!! HOLD!!! Flop comes J 2 A. no joke. Jkadsfl;ajsdflkajdsf;l I lose every single side pot. So stupid. Anyway, then me and Ryo went to spice and didn’t get to sleep till 7 AM, again.

I completley forgot about this blog but figure I'll start updating it again. Its fun to go back and read my poker history. I sort of forgot how much I sucked back then, not that I've gotten any better now.

I'm traveling the world- stayed in China for 6 months. Did Korea and Manila as well. I'm in Thailand now and going to meet up with a bunch of 2p2ers for the first time, which should be fun.

As for poker. I'm playing $1/2 right now on Stars. I'm going to try and play 100k hands this month- not do anything else besides play poker really. I've never played poker really, really hardcore and figure I should give it a try.

It should be funny meeting these guys because I can be a douche sometimes online and hopefully someone won't remember me. =/ We'll see!

Weeeee...finally graduated and was able to focus on poker. Right when I did that I played solid and ran 20ptbb/100 for a solid $500+ profit. I was actually pretty worried for two weeks there when I only played to take a break from studying and obviously wasn't playing my best at all and dropped about $2,500+ in those two weeks. Now I'm confident with some solid focus over the next 5 days I should be able to make that and more back before I leave for China.

Although I am going to really have to focus when I play abroad or else it will be like during finals week. I'm going to have to get some sort of schedule where I play a certain amount a day because its the times when I jump on for a quick 100 hands where I drop $200-$1000...and that hurts. Should be fun and I'll update more over the next few days.

I decided to play in a few tournies today because I wanted to play the Stars $1Mil. I got down to 16 or something in a $22 1 rebuy/add-on when I lost some sort of stupid hand where I was ahead. I actualyl got quite deep in the $1 Mil. I got card dead near the end and got scared that I would just blind away and made some stupid plays before I decided to push Q7o (!?!! Fucking idiot.) with 5.5 BB's, dumb dumb dumb. Hopefully, I learned my lesson. I think I was busting out of a lot of MTTs because of similar situations where I would get scared (Go for top 3, not ITM) and make bad pushes with >10 BB's. I would like to play more MTT's in the future, exspecially with the way cash has been going.

I just can't seem to make anything go with cash. I havn't had a winning session in 4 or 5 days now and just drop ~$400-600 right at the get go and then have to work that back before I actually see profit. Then tonight I just dropped 600 huno and don't even feel like grinding it back. Blah. I'm going to get a coach. I have contacted 3-bet.com and hopefully sometime this week I can do an hour phone sweat with and drastically improve my game- which I think it really needs. Now I am going to smoke some $30 cubans..weee! Balla.

Its 4/20! Obv. not going to smoke because of conference and whatnot but hey, people in class are going to be high.

Poker is been sorta me-eh. I lost 4 buy-ins playing 1/2, jumped up to 25/50, won it back and called it good. I think I played some more 1/2 and won a buy-in or something. I also played the $150 and got 98th for $300ish. Freaking guy called me with 56s after I pushed in the SB for like 8k more at 1/2k with AQo.

Its a lot different playing poker when winning mattered. Before, because I'm a spoiled kid, if I lost I could just reload and be fine. Now I dont' want to do that. If I lose the money in my Stars account, I'm in trouble. If I don't make enough money once I get to China, then I'm going to have to come back to the US and do somthing here which would be the worst thing that could possible happen, ever. So the moral is, if you are playing me at $1/2, don't take my money because if you do, I'll have to leave China and my travels and come back to the US.

Ugh. I had my first losing session today and it wasn't pretty. I dropped neary 4 buy-ins really quickily mostly due to some bad plays. The mornings seem to be far more aggresive and not nearly as passive/tight as the afternoon. I guess I just have to get used to it and I think I can really exploit it the people calling with all sorts of shit.

I'm still rocking over 5ptbb/100 which is my goal for $1/2 NL. If I can maintain that winrate, I really should be rolling in the dough pretty soon here. Unless I really feel ready, I can't play tournies as I just get frusterated and push push push. I'm looking at houses in Vegas and if I were to come back to the States, I think I would defiently try out Vegas for a little bit. I can get a pretty sick room for $500/month with a bunch of other addicts. Sweeeettttttttttt

I'm glad I came back. +1k yesterday. +200 after 500 hands today. 12ptbb/100 over the last 3k hands. I should never have quit. Now I really have to get cracking so I can live a pimp life style while I am in China/not go broke and have to come home.

People are really excited that I am ACTUALLY doing this but I think pretty pesimistic that I might be back in the US in like a month, max. Which is wired because I do have a bunch of money saved up that would be very difficult to put into PokerStars. And honestly, I'm not going to live the baller life-style, I'm too cheap for that. I'll prolly end up spending 2k a month which if I'm making 1k a day, means I can save quite a bit for when I get back to start up my business.

I ordered the Canon Rebel XTi from the FPP store and it still has not come yet. I have not even got an email saying that it is on its way and am worried its not going to come before I leave for China....in 38 days!! muhhaha.

I went to REI yesterday and got a pretty nice backpack which I'm excited to try out. Its really brightly colored but other than that, is perfect. Tons of pockets, big enough to fit my computer and camera and most importantly during monsoon season, waterproof.

This is a good place to really just ramble I feel. Nobody reads it but they COULD be reading it so I actually do bother to write things here. I'm not sure how I could make this blog more popular, maybe for starters becoming a better writer. I'll work on that.

I quit again for about 20 days. I was doing OK but really felt like I neeed buckle down and do other things before graduating. I actually got some solid work done on my thesis so I feel like I can come back tomorrow and play a lot of poker and be hapy with myself. I really havn't updated in awhile.

I am graduating in 30 days. I bought a one-way ticket to China bit ago and leave on May 21st. I don't have any plans once I get there. I want try out the travel/poker lifestyle for a bit and see how it goes. I figure if I make $2,000 a month, which really should not be hard, I'll be fine. I'm going to try and get a pretty sick pad for $600/month in China starting on June 1st. Until then I'll live with a friend who is going to be there or get a cheap hotel. $600/month could buy me a 2br, fully-furnished apartment right near downtown so I really will be pimping.

Say I suck at poker, drop down to $1/2 NL. I make 2.5ptBB/100. I 4-table 40 hours a month (Nothing). Thats $10/100/hrx4 tables = $40 an hour. x40 = $1600. Oh, thats nothing.

I get the checks sent back to the parents. They deposit and I get $1k to spend on misc. $1k ain't much so I pretty double that to 80 hours a month at first. Ok, So I rocked 5ptbb/100 playing 11k hands of $1/2 and I feel like I have gotten better.

5pt/bb at $1/2 is $20 a table/hr. $20x4= $80 an hour. I'll need to play 63 hours to make $5,000/month at $80 an hour. Almost a full time job. I'm rabling now but really like to pump out these numbers because they make me happy. I rocked 2pbb/100 at $2/4 NL. Thats $16/100/table over 25k hands. I'm not rolled for that yet so lets move back down to .5/1. I play 10k hands at $100 NL. I've got $5k now. I'd like to get to $6.5k before move up to $1/2. 15 buy-ins. I can make that in one day at $100 NL. Realisticaly though, if I rock 5ptbb/100 thats $10/100. I need to play 15k hands at $100 NL. Thats a bit to much. Lets go for 10k hands. Thats like 10 days of pretty good work.

Who am I kidding though? I'll move up to $1/2 after like 500 hands of crushing $100 NL. Suckers, I'm freaking going to China.

I quit for....4 days? Go me. Too bad I withdrew most of my money and am down to $135 now. I can't quit, though. One of the main arguments for me quitting was that I don't really need the money. Well, thats nots really true. I WILL need the money at some point and honestly, if I don't play poker I'm just going to browse 2p2 or something stupid like that all day. I want to make a lot of money know so I can seriously live away for awhile without doing anything.

I'm back. My goal is to turn this $135 into $5k by the end of the month. I'm going to take a lot of shots like playing $50 NL with $250. Then $100 NL with $500, etc. I'll move back down quick if I need to. So I'm either going to go broke quick or be golden with my goal. I just lost to quads 6's and am down to $115 so maybe it'll be go broke. We'll see.

So I quit for a bit. I decided I need to finish up school and am not sure that I will if I continue to play poker so much. Yeah, just cut back. Eh, I don't really do things in moderation. I'm not sure if this will work because most likely I will just pick up a new vice (Maybe WoW?). I already started playing Infantry again but am getting bored with that.

I don't want to do any work at all. Not even for 20 minutes. I just want to graduate, move to another country, get my own place and live the life I want too. Not that I'm not having fun now- I just got a girlfriend- but I think that moving to Thailand or India will be such a blast. 6 months in each place. I need to start learning languages, not stupid collective bargaining agreements between CA and OR. Frick that.

So in 3 months, I'll be back.

I didn't even win a hand today. I just played a session during class and lost EVERY single hand. I was pretty pumped last night because I actually cashed in the $150 nightly- got 14th place for a solid 1k. I was pretty pissed because it fold around to SB who raised and I pushed with 66 which is no good against A8s. Sucker. I prolly would have won 30k if the A hadn't hit too =( It gives me a reason to play again though. Below are my results over the last 36k hands. Obv. the last 300 hands or so hurt pretty bad. Hopefully, if I play again later, I can make some of that back up.

We'll see how that looks.

Wow. I just finished playing 5,000 hands of $1/2 NL. That is the most of ever played- a quarter of what I have played this month alone. Unfortunatly, I only ran at 2bb/100 mostly because, well, a little bit of everything. I also played some guy HU on 3 tables and ran pretty poorly. I'm actually reall tired and can't even type right now. The point is- lots of hands, OK results, good prospects for the future.

The end of an era- that of me losing money. From here on out and for the past month and a half I have played very well. Besides playing the occasional tourny that I don't actually plan on finishing, I have dominated $1/2 NL to the point of deciding I can do this for a living. No, I'm not going to drop out of school. I've got another 3 months, exactly, before the big day I say goodbye to school forever.

If I can occur, through poker and the stockmarket, at least $20,000 I will be travling the world for as long as my money lasts. Hopefully on the way, I'll be able to play more poker, make more money and thus begins the start of a new era- the travling poker player. Prehaps the title of a new blog.

I really would like some readers, one would be plenty. Its pretty bad that I have written in this blog for two+ years and I'm not sure even one person has read a word of it. So I'm going to start posing more on 2+2 and signing with a link. So if you have come here from 2+2, please leave a comment to know that somebody, anybody has read this. I'm not the best writer but it is an interesting evolution of a player who has gone through so many ups and downs, I dont' even try and keep track of them anymore.

My AIM is RolonPoker. I'd also like to start chatting with some other serious players. Nobody at my school plays poker seriously. I can't have people watch me play anymore because they belittle me for folding QJo UTG. I can't stand talking to these people anymore. This is a plea for help. I must sound pretty desperate and I sort of am. Its odd, I have no trouble making friends in real life but seem to find it impossible to make friends over the internet, whether it be EverQuest, WoW, forums, IRC or poker. I'm a nice guy- get to know me.

I'm going to attempt to update this everyday. I'll offer my demi-good-like poker wisdom. Prehaps that will entice people to read- who could pass that up?

Except today I made two really dumb plays that cost me my stack. Ugh. ...stop with the freaking dumb plays. Oh good poker, how I love 'thee. If only I could play more and focus at the same time. I played 1,300 hands the other day in order to get Gold Star and made a bunch of money. Umm..an idea. I'm just going to play for VIP points, not for number of hands. I'm going to get Plat level this month...so like 15,000 hands this month. Starting now! Too bad I'm going away for this weekend but after that, I'm going to freaking just rock those VIPs and the money should float in on the wind. I just ramble here- not really talk about anything uesful. Although I should use paragraphes.

There. I need to make $2,000/month in order to be able to do live abroad in Thailand or some such country and live independtly. $200 a month for aprt. $200 for food. $400 for misc. That leaves $1,200 for savings/investment. Thats what I'm going to do. After I run out of things to do in the States like internship/peace corps. Its going to be sooo sweet...living in freaking Thailand. I need to learn Thai...umm...any teachers out there?

Life news? I'm doing track. I can run fast again. I play magic cards and got my whole frat to. I joined a ping-pong club and play every Tues/Thurs pretty competitivly. I'm writing my thesis and will graduate in 3 months. I lost all social skills. Don't have a girlfriend/friends. Eh, life goes on.

Sometimes I hate poker, sometimes I love it. Simply statement but gad, I go on runes like you woudln't believe and then run so bad, all I want to do is hurl myself out a window, preferable a high one. I guess I'm not really rolled for $400 NL anymore but I'm going to continue to play it until I get down to $1500, which hopefully won't happen. At $1500, I'll start playing $200 NL again. I have to change my playing style because I don't hit flops anymore and I don't win hands, so why play 'em?

I really can do it! I have had 2 winnings sessions in the last two days, weeeeee! It is so much more fun to win than to lose, fo sho.

I am playing in the Sunday Million right now- doing alright with about 5k above average going into the first break. Gad, I just want to Fing cash. It would be less than $50 for a cash but that is all I want!! I don't need to FT or anything, just a measly cash so I can justfiy playing...although I'll prolly keep playing regardless if I cash or not.

I'm pretty tired at this point. I drink and party too much and leave myself little time to play poker/do homework. On top of that, I lost my wallet yesterday and stupidly had $200+, credit cards, liscense and all that. I'm over it though.
Pokerwise, I am doing all right. If I can wake up a little bit more, I am going to play the million guar on Stars and if they will Fing give me my money, play the bodog, FT and Doyle (maybe).

We'll see. I am going to try and make a sick graph for my Nov $$$. It should look pretty funny.

Another poor day at the tables although I did figure out what was wrong with my cash games. I just was not focusing, period. I'm too tired at this point to go into details but I lost about 500 hunny today. Tournies went alright- cashed in a few but nothing major. Prolly down about 150 because the stupper that I lost with AQ < 1010. I think I need to take less huge risks like that.

I played poorly today. I relized the reason I was making 50bb/100 for like 4,000 hands was just because I didn't make one mistake. I made two big ones yesterday and just ruined my day and caused me a -$600 day.

I made $2,299.45 today. The real question is...how long can I maintain a 50+ BB/100 rate? Another day? Another week? Maybe another month. The point is, at some point I am going to crash and hopefully not blow my roll because I am not actually good at poker. It worries me.

This is where I start to lose a lot of money. I want to start playing all the big tournies that different sites have to offer, like bodog, FT and UltimateBet. This Sunday though I think I'm just going to play the Stars, if I can sat. in with my FFP points and bodog because its just a 100+9 and a fishfest. I have to wait to cash in a $100+ tourny before I start playing them....cashing gooot. Problem is, I keep playing the $150 fairly well but have gotten Fed the last couple of times. Cash games are going good as always. WEll, ya know for the past 3 or 4k hands where I have been running 50bb/100 at 2/4...weeeee!

Blah, I played reall well for the first 7 hours of the tournies and cash games but played really really poorly at the end. Now I'm pretty tired at this point and am going to bed. I spent about $500-600 on tournies and only cashed for a bit so I ended up about +100 for the day. Anyway, I'm all pokered out. We'll see if I even play tomorrow.

For all those who don't read my blog, I am going to start it back up. I generally do this when I am winning, which I have been, so if I keep winning, I am going to stick with it.
The big news- I finally made a significant FT and got $3500 in a 6-way split. Solid!

For the next 3 or so days, I am going to play $200 and all the rebuys on Stars. My BR sits at a solid $5k right now. Super stoked. I also have other money in other places and have spent around $1.5k this semester. So my total profit for poker in the last 3 months is ~$8k or so. Not bad for a college kid. If anybody actually does read this blog, please give me suggestions for how to improve it. It would be nice to actually know that somebody reads this.

I make bad plays when I talk to people. I have to move down stakes when people are in my room. I am a winner and will be competitive. I cannot and will not lose. Freaking A though. 3/6 limit is tough sometimes. Ecspeically when I ran so hot for the first month and a half and now can't get a winning session in. F that shit.

God dangit. I suck at poker. I've dropped like $600 in 5 days from being a bum. When I don't play all the time I forget my drive- why I play. I lose that competitive edge and just think of it as a hobby. Its a huge trade-off because I don't want to play so much but I'm afriad I HAVE to in order to be a winning player. I'm going to have to drop down to $2/4 until I bring my BR back to $600. I was about to write, "Whenever that happens" but I have to be confident. I will run well and I will own $2/4. The play there is terriable, I can't lose. PERIOD.

Its tuff but I am going to start playing more, doing less random stuff with friends which although is fun, I want to make a lot of money.
